This is a new project devised and developed by SciHi who will facilitate a cross phase ‘Hidden Secrets of Science’ day for Gifted and Talented ‘non-scientists’ at LPEC. This aims to raise awareness of National Science Week through enterprise-based scientific activities working with companies selected for their relevance and sympathetic business philosophy.
8 year 7 students from 3 secondary schools and 8 year 6 from their partner schools will form ‘companies’ who will then work as teams to take up various enterprise challenges relating to science and arising from farm activities and produce.
There will be a programme of investigations, leading to a day of workshops, which will be delivered by educationalists, specialist enthusiasts and professionals from the organic farming industry.
There will be a team challenge involving all pupils split into different groups of four. Two Yr7 students will work with Two Yr6 pupils to accept the science based enterprise challenge, which links with one of the day’s activities. Using the Virtual School’s Platform, the teams will be set a design brief ahead of the event. They will have to use the e-learning platform to communicate their ideas and must show evidence that everyone in the team has contributed to the design process.
The follow up activity will build on additional knowledge and understanding gained on the day at LPEC. These will be placed on their e-learning platforms and assessed after National Science Week. The best 4 designs will go on the related websites for anyone to vote on-line for the design of their choice.
