Most of your Virtual School will be publicly visible, but you may want some folders to be accessible by selected people only.
For instance, a Governor's forum should only be visible by the Governors themselves. Similarly, if you would like to publish pupil's assessments, you should ensure that only the child's parents can view them.
Alumni networks, school trip forums and many other applications can be based on secure folders, which are a standard part of the Virtual Schools Environment.
Secure folders are the basis of many schools Curriculum Extranet.
The concept is for students of the school (and only their school) to have global 24 hour secure viewing access(via individual log in) to lesson and learning materials placed at their disposal by the staff of the school.Teachers can create and upload learning resources and publish them to the website. These can be published into areas for all ,or particular groups of students, or just for the teachers own use
This obviates the necessity to allow external access to the schools' servers.
To access a secure area you will need a member login box built into the design of your website.
