Main Menu Bar

The banner across the top of the screen usually includes a list of the principle folders of your website. If and when you reorganise your site by adding, removing or renaming a folder at the "root" level, you will need to reflect the new structure on your templates.

Breadcrumb Trail

Example of how to navigate on a school website

A Breadcrumb Trail is a tool which not only tracks exactly where the user is in your website's folder hierarchy, but allows them to back-track to any level of the tree they have recently visited.

Navigation Pane

The Navigation Pane which is normally on the left or right hand side of the screen is always included in a design. This allows the user to find the documents and folders they need.

On each page, the Navigation Pane lists the documents and folders in the current folder. As you create new folders and documents, the Navigation Pane is automatically updated.

The Navigation Pane will normally include elements such as a member login box, search this site tool and useful links.
