Virtual Schools provide a unique, fully managed web environment designed specifically for the Education sector.
Who developed Virtual Schools?
The business was founded by Richard Nichols and Jonathan Reynolds in 2001, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of 8th Day Studios Ltd.
What is a Content Management System?
A content management system is a software system, such as the Virtual Schools Platform, used for content management. This allows a large number of contributors to add content to a website which can be controlled by user permissions and different publishing rights.
How easy is the content editor to use?
The content editor has a similar interface to most word processor applications, such as Microsoft Word.
Who designs the websites?
We have an in-house design team called 8th Day Studios Ltd. We will build you a tailored design, unique to your organisation. This is taken from your specific design brief, incorporating your input and requirements.
Can a school migrate an existing design onto the Platform?
Yes. If the school has a design that it wants to use we can take this and transfer it onto the Virtual Schools platform. This will give the school all the functionality of the Virtual Schools system and we will code it to comply whenever possible with accessibility standards.
What about the existing content on the school's old website?
If you have an existing website, it probably contains some valuable information that you will want to migrate to your new Virtual School. We will migrate any of your existing website content, there is no extra charge for this as it is included in your Virtual Schools subscription fee.
What is a Virtual RuckSack?
Virtual RuckSacks are the perfect solution to the demands of a Personal Learning Environment. A Virtual RuckSack is a product developed by 8th Day Studios Ltd that allows the user to upload and store any type of electronic document or item therefore creating an e-portfolio of their work.
Can a school have an online shop on their website?
Yes, e-commerce for the school becomes a reality as Virtual Schools has the functionality to provide a consumer friendly catalogue and shopping basket which works with both World Pay and Protx online payment systems.
How secure is the Virtual Schools Platform?
From open publications to password protected forums, from secure folders to group projects we offer the ability to restrict access and publishing rights to authorised users only. The Virtual Schools platform is 128 bit SSL encrypted which gives you the highest level of protection possible.
Is the Virtual Schools Platform a Fully Managed Service?
Yes, Virtual Schools is a fully hosted environment providing each school with a 24/7, 365 managed platform and all site content and data is secure behind firewalls and encryption. All sites are fully backup and protected by our Standard Service Level Agreement (SLA). We also provide comprehensive design and content support.
Do we need any special equipment?
No, we run off any computer with internet compatibility.
